Activities at PIMLT

 

Phlebotomy Training - Padmashree Institute of Medical Lab Technology conducted a one day work shop on Phlebotomy Training on 29 th April, 2015. This work-shop consisted of lectures on the scientific principles and practice of phlebotomy. The session was handled by experienced faculty who made presentations on the theory and practice of phlebotomy. This was followed by a hands-on session wherein phlebotomists were given a orientation to the skills and activities related to sample collection/extraction in medical laboratories. Special emphasis was made regarding safety precautions and guidelines that phlebotomists need to inculcate into their routine work.

Course topics included

  • Role of phlebotomy in health care
  • Equipment and materials used in phlebotomy
  • Patient identification and preparation protocols –(The pre-pre examination phase)
  • Preparation protocols before sample extraction such as labeling of appropriate collection tubes
  • Steps involved in sample extraction
  • Post-collection activities
  • Preparation of samples for transport
  • Preparation and practice of Finger-prick
  • Bio-safety issues including the risk of needle-stick injury

 

CME on “QMS for Laboratories” training program in technical association with The Foundation for Quality, India on 03 rd May, 2015 at Dhanvantri Hall, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore. The CME was inaugurated by the Honorable Vice Chancellor Dr. K. S. Ravindranath.

A symposium on “Building a Laboratory Workforce to meet the Future” was held on 9 th September 2015 at The International Education & Skills Summit in Bangalore International Exhibition Centre. Key decision makers who included the senior faculty, experienced professionals representing the academia and the industry were invited to attend the symposium. Based on the feedback received draft guidelines were submitted to the Government for further action.

“Phlebotomy best practices and preanalytical variables” on 13 th Feb, 2016 at Padmashree Institute of MLT, Padmashree Campus, Kommaghatta, Kengeri

The topic was “Pre Analytical Variables” which was dealt under following headings-

Patient Identification, Patient Preparation, Selecting the Site, Site Preparation, Tourniquet Application and Time, Order of Draw for Multiple Tube Collections , Proper Tube Mixing, Correct Specimen Volume, Centrifugation, Proper Tube Handling, Trouble shooting, Specimen Processin g, Healthcare Workers Safety Measures and Disease Etiology.

 

Laboratory Visits By The Students

In order to give our students a first hand experience into the world of clinical laboratory we take them to visit some of the renowned laboratories in Bangalore. They even get a chance to have a practical experience in the laboratories or hospitals that they visit. The various laboratories visited by them are as follows:

  • II B.Sc MLT students were posted to Padmashree Diagnostics for rotational postings from Nov/ Dec 2014
  • III B. Sc MLT students were trained at Kidwai Memorial Hospital in February 2015
  • II M.Sc MLT students were posted in NIMHANS in February 2015

 

Alumini Get Together On 05-03-2015

The golden period in once life is during the college days and so in order to keep those memories fresh we organize an alumini get together. We had arranged an alumini breakfast on 05/03/15. We have started a data base where in we enter all the details of the students who have completed their courses with us.
